STARTS JULY 12: Women's Doubles Summer Challenge Ladder

What is a challenge ladder?

This simple format of play allows competitive match play by doubles teams / singles players to move up and down a tennis ladder. Doubles teams at a similar level challenge each other. If a lower team on the ladder beats a higher placed team, they move up and everyone in between moves down.

3 Steps to Get Started.

How the Ladder Works

  1. The Challenge: You can challenge anyone up to 3 spots above you on the ladder.
  2. Acceptance: Once challenged, you have 7 days to agree on a time and play the match.

  3. The Stakes: If the lower-ranked player (the challenger) wins, they "leapfrog" into the winner’s spot, and the loser moves down one. If the higher-ranked player wins, positions stay the same.

Match Format: Standard best-of-three sets (with a 10-point tiebreaker for the 3rd set) is recommended, but players can agree on a "Pro-Set" (first to 8 games) to save time.

Rules of the Court

How the Ladder Works

  • The Balls: The challenger provides a fresh can of high altitude balls for the match.
  • Reporting: The winner is responsible for reporting the score via TeamReach or to the Ladder Admin within 48 hours.
  • Court Reservations & Court Fees: Players are responsible for their own court reservations (and if any associated court fees) at Atkinson Park, Elkhorn, WRHS, Sun Valley or wherever you want to play.

How to Sign Up

  • Talk it up: It takes you to make this happen! Help us find and connect players to join the doubles and singles ladders.
  • Round Robin: We will be hosting a "Ladder Sort" Round Robin on or around July 12th (tbd) to determine initial rankings. If you can’t make it, you’ll be added to the bottom of the ladder in the order you sign up.

Interested?

Send us an email at info@woodrivertennis.org to indicate your interest. And add yours and your partner's names to this Google sheet here. When you enter your names to the sheet, you will be ranked on the ladder in order of sign up. That means the sooner you sign up, the higher your initial ladder ranking will be! **If it's a go, the "Ladder Admin" will reach out to you with a TR Group Code.**

Let's Do it! Quick Tips to a Successful Ladder

  • Be Active: If you don't play at least one match every 2-3 weeks, your ranking may "freeze" or drop to keep the ladder moving
  • Fair Play: Confirm the match format (pro-set vs. full sets) before the first serve
  • Socialize: Meet new hitting partners at your skill level—it’s about playing and building the tennis community!
